Solar Panels start at 1W and go up to 120W. Factors to consider when deciding which Solar Panel to use include: Power Requirements, Battery Size and of course cost. It is usually a case of balancing the power requirements versus what the owner is prepared to spend on Solar that decides what Panel is used. For occasional weekend use running a few lights and a 12V TV, a 20 - 40W Solar Panel would be sufficient. This would be enough to keep the battery fairly full for the weekend and will also provide a charge to top the battery up when not in use. Less than 20W and you're really only trickle charging the battery, which is still worth doing to keep the battery topped up while not in use. Battery size would probably be in the 50 - 100A/H range. To run more lights and a bigger TV, a 50 - 60W panel would be advisable. Battery size would probably be in the 70 - 130A/H range. For a house that is lived in full-time, a minimum of 64W - 80W Solar Panels would be used. A small house system would have 2 Solar Panels and if you have a fridge or fridge/freezer 4 or more panels would be necessary. Please contact us for advice on the best Solar panels for your needs. |
